INSTRUCTIONS
HEAD & BODY--cut 25 to 30 pieces of raffia, 18"
long. Reserve 3 pieces.
With one of the 3 pieces tightly tie the remaining
pieces across the center (9" from each end). Place
wooden ball in center of tied pieces. Fold raffia
pieces over ball to cover it. For neck use another
piece of reserve to tie pieces tightly together below
the ball, knotting in the back. Ends of raffia pieces
form body.
ARMS--cut 12 pieces of raffia, each 11" long.
Separate body pieces, half for front body and half
for back. Center arms between front and back under
the neck tie. With another piece of raffia, tie all
body pieces together directly under arms. Tie arms 3"
from body on each side. Trim ends for hands. Trim
bottom of the body pieces to be even.
DRESS--cut two 4 1/2" x 5" fabric pieces. With right
sides together, stich 5" side edges, using 1/4" seam,
stop 1 1/2" from top. Fold upper edges of both pieces
under 1/4" and make running stitches along folded
edge of each, leaving long thread ends for gathering. Fray bottom of skirt hem. Turn dress
right side out. Fit dress on body. pull threads to
gather to neck. Tie ribbon into a bow and glue to
center front neck.
WINGS--Cut 10 to 15 pieces of raffia, each 20" long.
Fold tying center with another piece of raffia.
Finishing--Twist arms to center, gluing them so hands
overlap. Glue center of wings to back of neck.
Halo--Braid three 3" raffia pieces. Form into a
circle. Overlap ends and glue together. Glue to back
of head.
